St. Joe’s High School Re-Design News
What ‘s going on at St. Joe’s ? In short, a revolution in the way we in the education field deliver a High School Education to your children. One of the changes that students and parents will be experiencing over the next few months is the introduction of STRIVE. Adolescents , like all students, learn best when they have a sense of community and connection , they feel heard and known, and they feel safe enough to take risks . The SJ STRIVE Advisory program will create a sense of community and connection , that will give students a stronger voice in their education. As Mr. Matheson’s message states Wednesday, September 21st from 4 – 7 pm will be our 1st ever Advisor/Parent interviews. Teachers will be in contact with you to set up a short meeting with you and your child to get to know a little more about you and your child. Don’t miss out, it’s a great way to help us help your child to succeed in their educational journey at St. Joe’s.
We will be starting our new exciting, innovative and student centered Focus Fridays, on October 14th, with more information to follow.
We are also changing the way PTI’s at St. Joe’s will be conducted, no longer will they be held after report cards but before. This is in direct response to parents and kids telling us that after report cards is much too late for the necessary interventions from parents and teachers to aid students in achieving their academic potential in a particular course. The date of this pre-report card PTI will be October 19th from 4-7pm.
In the next few weeks students will be working with their Strive Advisors to develop a learning plan. Look for it to come home to be signed and as parents your input is greatly encouraged. Together parents and St. Joe’s teachers will ensure that our students succeed!
Finally attendance and success go hand in hand. Instructional time is vital to success or failure. Please ensure that your child attends their classes. Teachers and administration will be phoning home to alert you of unexcused absences. Powerschool is also a valuable tool in tracking your child’s attendance. Power school tutorials will be offered Sept. 21st during Advisory interviews.
