Student Advisory Program

Success Group/Student Advisory Program

A student advisory program is being introduced for the 2011-2012 school year.

  • Students will be members of a grades 9/10 group or an 11/12 group.
  • There will be approximately 20 students per advisor.
  • Success Groups will meet weekly for a minimum of 60 minutes.
  • Attendance is mandatory and important for student success.

Success groups goals are to:

  • Foster positive relationships between students and Success Leaders by creating a safe, respectful learning environment within the group.
  • Advise students so they are able to reach their full academic potential.
  • Improve competencies in learning, personal management, and being an effective member of the community,
  • Enhance the practice of faith in our community.

Adolescents, like all students, learn best when

  • they have a sense of community and connection.
  • they feel heard and known.
  • they feel safe enough to take risks.

Effective advisory programs create a safer, more caring, better managed and more participatory learning environment which in turns leads to an increase in student attachment to school.  The result is better attendance, greater achievement and a strong sense of citizenship.
